What is a dishwasher salt?

You have used dishwasher salt, ever wondered what is it ?

Dishwasher salt is a particular grade of granulated, crystalline sodium chloride intended for regenerating the water softener circuit of household or industrial dishwashers. Analogous to water softener salt, dishwasher salt regenerates ion exchange resins, expelling the therein trapped calcium and magnesium ions that characterize hard water. Dishwater salt granules are larger than those of table salt. The granule size ensures that the salt dissolves slowly, and that fine particles do not block the softener unit.

Dishwasher salt is unsuitable for cooking as it is not considered food grade and therefore may contain toxic elements.

If a dishwasher has a built-in water softener there will be a special compartment inside the dishwasher where the salt is to be added when needed. This salt compartment is separate from the detergent compartment, and generally located at the bottom of the wash cabinet (this is below the bottom basket). On most dishwashers, an automatic sensing system will notify the user when more dishwasher salt is required.

If the dishwasher has run out of the salt that regenerates the ion exchange resin that softens the water, and the water supply is "hard", limescale deposits can appear on all items, but are especially visible on glassware.

In areas with soft water there is no need to use dishwasher salt for the machine to work. There is an option to adjust the water hardness making the machine to use no amount of salt brine for every dish cycle.

Saltwater gargle for cough

How does the saltwater solution helps to cure cold and cough?  Ever wondered when we gargle with salt water how it helps to reduce cough. Salt water has osmotic properties, when the solution passes near mucus cells it draws water from the mucus cells effectively thinning the mucus layer. ( The salt concentration in the solution causes to create difference so water draws out of mucus) Salt water also soothes the throat. When taken as nasal spray or drop it does the same action to reduce cold symptoms.

112 Emergency number

Government of India has launched an emergency response number 112 . On calling this number, the cell records your location and can be used in any emergency situation be it fire, health, robbery, etc.  More information can be found on following link: 112 GOI See a short video about same. Thank you for visiting. Take care.

AI and software development

Recently I came across a post on whether AI will replace software developers. You might have heard about ChatGPT the AI library or Github's co pilot. All the developers are scared that soon their jobs will be replaced by AI. Some have predicted that to happen by year 2030.  So what is the threat? Day by day no of software companies are growing and so the no of developers in market as the new lot of freshers are entering the market.  The scale with which the AI tools are improving is tremendous. Eventually good code is just few lines of structured program. And the amount of existing code available in code repositories like github is huge enough to train the AI. Over the coming years AI can be as good as developer with experience of 50 years! Following areas are under immediate threat 1. Code generation  2. Testing & debugging  3. project management Following professions are safe from AI 1. Creative  2. Healthcare 3. Skilled workers like welders, plumbers 4. Education  5. Resea
